Hannan was raised and educated through High School in Western Pennsylvania. He studied at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas from 1961 to 1964 and
traveled and worked in Western Europe in 1964/65. Michael was
in the Army Security Agency from 1965 thru 1969 and worked as an intelligence
analyst and linguist in Viet Nam and Germany until his overseas
honorable discharge in '69. He studied photography in Germany and photography and
serigraphy (silk screen printing) in Pennsylvania and Texas upon his return to America.
Michael married Elizabeth Merrifield in her home village of Horwich in Lancashire, England in 1973. He designed,
hand produced and sold over 50,000 signed, limited edition photo silk screen
prints (serigraphs) in over 100 editions between 1970 and 1986 while living
in the Texas Hill Country. He retired from his art work because of screen
printing related knee injuries and a desire to breathe fresh clean air away
from the fumes of the silk screen printing tables he had worked on for the
previous 16 years. He and Elizabeth moved to the mountains of East Tennessee where they currently
live and work.
From 1986 until today he and Elizabeth have
developed and sold real estate and have owned and operated a real estate
brokerage company and since 1996 a Bed and Breakfast Inn as well. In 1995,
Michael began the study of computer art design and computer photo
enhancement. Over the past 5 years, with these newfound tools at his
disposal, Hannan has produced this large Gallery of his original, signed and
numbered, limited edition prints which he calls "digital paintings"
which look for all the world like fine water color paintings according to
those who have seen them.
The images are from city to country, flowers to
architecture, buildings to beaches and antique, collector and long forgotten automobiles.
